The goal of content writing for law firms is to provide engaging, relevant and helpful content to bring potential clients to your website, explain how you can solve their legal problem and introduce them to your firm and your services. You also want to build awareness and authority around your industry, stay relevant and gain new clients.

However, all of the above and trying to figure out what law firm blog topics to write about can be frustrating. Not to mention, with all your actual client work it’s difficult to find the time to sit down and write.

It is extremely important to blog consistently and stay up to date and as well as stay relevant in your industry. Your potential clients want to come to your website, read your blog, get to know you and your expertise and see that you are transparent and have a complete understanding of their wants and needs.

Your clients want to gain knowledge from your blog by:

  • Finding new and important information

  • Be aware of any updates and/or changes to the law

  • Getting their legal questions answered

  • Finding support and resources

Blog Content Strategy

People are visiting your law firm’s blog to solve their legal problems and get information about their issue. You can drive targeted visitors to your blog and strategically manage and maintain your blog content by creating a blog content strategy.

Your blog content strategy should consider:

  • frequently asked questions about your firm and services

  • trending topics and news in your legal field

  • competitive analysis

  • newsjacking media headlines

  • firm news and updates

To help you get started with your blog strategy, here are 30 law firm topic ideas that you can use for your blog. Depending on how frequently you update your blog, this resource can help you plan out content for weeks to come.

1. Google alerts

The first thing you want to do is set up Google alerts with topics related to your law industry. If something newsworthy comes up you easily have a blog topic to write about.

2. Interview lawyers

If you have a non-competitor that you would like to interview to gain more knowledge about a certain law topic, set up an interview with them. You can send them questions, video record a zoom or meet in person. Transcribe your video and you have an informative and resourceful blog post.

3. Interview someone in your office

Have a new team member? Set up an interview with them to learn more about their background and a few interesting things about them. People do business with people. Clients love transparency and want to meet your team and you can show your team is knowledgeable, experienced and approachable.

4. Q&A session or AMA

This is something you can do once in a while or a few times a month. Post a question or topic you are willing to discuss on social media, set up a time to either go live or record a video and answer the questions. Or, advertise a day and time you are going to go live on social media to answer questions live. AMA - Ask Me Anything - is a good way to find out what legal topics your audience wants to know more about!

5. Share an update

Have something new and exciting going on with your law firm? Blog about it. It could be as simple as a newly decorated office. Take photos!
