How to Create a Brand Strategy for Your Law Firm’s Instagram

Just before you starting reading this article, you were probably sitting staring at your computer or off in the distance trying to decide on what to post to your Instagram. You probably searched “current trending topics” in your industry or started looking at competitors’ Instagram for inspiration. This probably then leaves you wondering; first, how they are creating all that good content, and second, how does their Instagram looks so curated and branded?

It’s because they have developed a branding and content strategy around their Instagram account

These stats below will show you why having an Instagram account is so important to your law firm, and why it’s even more important to have well-thought-out branding and a content strategy.

Did you know that according to Instagram Business;

• 90% of their users follow a business.
• 80% of users look to Instagram to find services.
• 200 million Instagram users visit at least one business profile daily.

Yes, those are huge numbers and yes, your law firm needs to be a statistic.

9 Steps on How to Create a Brand Strategy for Your Law Firm’s Instagram

You absolutely need to create a branding and content strategy for your law firm’s Instagram, and this article will show you exactly how to do it. Follow the steps below to help you answer specific questions about your law firm so you can begin to start branding your Instagram account and curate your content.

Step 1: Inspiration

This might seem like a strange first step but you should look around at other Instagram accounts within and outside of your industry. It’s ok, everyone does this to get inspiration: in industry-speak, it’s called benchmarking and competitive analysis. It’s also important to get ideas of what types of content is out there.

Tip: Make sure to save or bookmark the accounts you like.

Step 2: Decide on a graphic design platform

You might already be using a design platform to create your Instagram posts. However, the one I like to use the best is Canva. To get started you can sign up for a free account and use templates that have been already created. Once you play around on the site, you will find it’s pretty easy to use and navigate.

Step 3: Color and fonts

What do you want your Instagram to look like? Do you want to follow the colors and fonts of your website and logo? Do you want to add pops of color? Do you want to use a professional font or something that is more playful?

Step 4: Photography

How do you want to share photos on Instagram? Do you want to showcase yourself in most of the posts? Do you want to look professional in those photos or more casual? Will you include your team? Or do you want to just use stock photography? Or maybe a little bit of both?

Step 5: Theme

Now you have to decide on what’s your theme for your Instagram account? Do you want your account to reflect your law firm? Is your firm more professional or causal? Do you want your Instagram account to reflect a more professional side or a more light-hearted side?

Step 6: Demographics

Will your Instagram account target your ideal client demographic? Or more showcase your day-to-day of what‘s going on behind the scenes at your law firm or the services you provide at your law firm?

Step 7: Content

This is probably the most important question. What types of content do you want to share on your Instagram account? At first, you probably want to create templates to share 4 to 5 different types of content and then gradually add more. You will also start to see from your Instagram account stats which content is preferred by your audience.

Curated Instagram Topic Ideas

Here are some ideas of content you can curate for your Instagram account. Once your Instagram templates are created by answering the question above, you can start adding your content to them.

  • Facts and statistics

  • Quotes

  • Client Q&A’s

  • Celebrations and milestones

  • Events

  • Behind the scenes

  • Cases that have lots of media attention that relate to your industry

  • Breaking News

  • Changes to the law

  • Services

  • Press

  • Client reviews

  • Cases won

  • Law memes

  • Motivational posts

  • Trending topics

  • Community posts

  • Thank you posts

  • Make your posts into 30-second videos promoting your services, firm updates, breaking news, tips, how to’s, etc

The best part is that once your templates have been created you can reuse your templates over and over. You will just want to make little changes over time. Or if you get inspiration to rebrand your account and content. I would recommend making a few changes about every six months. Especially since new styles and branding trends come out.

Step 8: Hashtags

Research and make a list of relevant hashtags that you will want to use consistently on your Instagram posts. These hashtags should be related to your industry and your firm’s services. You also want a list of hashtags that are relevant to current trends so that you can attract a new audience. For example, if you post a meme of a dog you might want to use the hashtag #doglover along with your other relevant hashtags.

Step 9: Mix it up

Create about ten templates that you can use on your Instagram grid. You don’t want to use the same post style over and over again. However, if you follow these steps each post will look perfectly brand and curated. You want your grid to match the branding and content strategy of your law firm.
